Figure out what kind of gamer you actually are
Most buying guides just sort GPUs by price. That's a start, but it skips the real question: what are you actually optimizing for? Two people with the same budget — one playing competitive shooters, one playing story-heavy RPGs — should probably buy completely different cards.
Competitive / esports players. Valorant, CS, Apex, Fortnite — you care about high, stable framerates way more than eye candy. You're probably running a 144Hz or 240Hz monitor. Don't overspend
Match the card to your monitor. A 4K card on a 1080p screen is wasted money. Buy for the resolution you've actually got.
