AMD's Latest Adrenalin Driver Adds Day-One Support for the Modern Warfare 4 Beta

Version 26.8.1 lands a handful of genuine fixes and a new product entry, but it's the fine print that matters most for anyone testing this weekend's biggest beta on a Radeon card.

AMD shipped Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.8.1 on August 20, a WHQL-certified update for Windows 10 and 11. The headline addition is day-one support for Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta, which opened its Early Access window the same week. Two other new releases, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and STAR WARS Zero Company, get the same treatment.

What's Actually Fixed

Three specific bugs are resolved in this build. Marvel Rivals and Subnautica 2 previously wouldn't launch at all in a multi-adapter, or combined-graphics, configuration on RX 7000-series cards and newer. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III had a similar crash-on-startup problem in that same configuration on RX 9000-series hardware. And Adrenalin's own recording and replay tools could silently fail to save a clip when no audio output device was selected on RX 9000-series systems running Windows 10.

On the hardware side, the driver adds support for the Radeon RX 9050 4GB, sitting alongside the 8GB card already in market.

The Catch for MW4 Beta Players

This is where the release notes are worth a closer look before you queue up. AMD flags that FSR Upscaling and FSR Frame Generation can appear inactive inside Adrenalin while running the Modern Warfare 4 beta on RX 9000-series graphics, even with both features switched on. If your frame rate feels off and the FSR toggle looks greyed out mid-match, that's a documented limitation rather than a misconfigured setup — a fix presumably arrives in a future point release, not this one.

A related quirk hits Anti-Lag 2, which can report as disabled after turning off Frame Generation specifically in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. AMD lists both as open items, not regressions introduced by this update.

One More Thing

Owners of older RX 9000-series cards dealing with intermittent Starfield crashes should hold off on this update — AMD is still pointing those users toward the earlier 26.7.1 build until a proper fix lands. If you do need to roll back, run the AMD Cleanup Utility first rather than installing the older driver over the top.
