Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Override Is Live — Sonic, Mega Man, and Kingdom Hearts Join the Island

Servers came back up this morning with the biggest gaming crossover roster Epic has put together for a single season, plus a new mechanic that lets players rewrite the rules of the match itself.

Servers came back up at 6 AM ET this morning after a four-hour maintenance window, and Fortnite's new season, Override, is now playable on every platform. Chapter 7 Season 4 runs through November 1, giving players a little over ten weeks with this Battle Pass before the next season takes over.

This one leans all the way into gaming nostalgia. Sonic the Hedgehog headlines the Battle Pass alongside Tails, with Shadow and Dr. Eggman also showing up in-game. Mega Man brings his Buster arm cannon. Persona 5 Royal's Joker, Kingdom Hearts' Sora, Pac-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon in his original look round out one of the biggest crossover rosters Epic has put together for a single season. More Item Shop content from these collaborations will keep rolling out week to week rather than landing all at once.

Override Consoles — the New Core Mechanic

Override Consoles spawn in every match, and whoever reaches one first gets to rewrite a rule for the entire lobby — everyone can see your name on the console once you've claimed it, so there's no hiding who made the call. A rarer version, Squad Overrides, only buffs the squad that grabs it, but it broadcasts that squad's position on the map in exchange. There's also a Cheat Code system layered on top: input codes players can enter mid-match for bonus effects, plus physical Lobby Hacks scattered around to find.

Weapons follow the same theme. Midas' Masterpiece is a one-shot headshot pistol, and Mega Man's Buster is in the loot pool from day one. Kingdom Hearts' Kingdom Key and a pair of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners weapons are coming later in the season.

Sprites and the Battle Pass

Sprites carry over from last season. Anyone who built up a collection during Runners keeps it, and there's a new Sprite Garden mode for showing it off. New Sprites are being introduced this season too, and the Sprite Dust they drop feeds into Loot Hacks — a system that lets players customize what comes out of Chests, adding items you won't find any other way.

Buy the Battle Pass before August 27 at 11:59 PM ET and you'll get the Infiltrator Grace Crowne outfit as a launch-week bonus. Gift it to a friend at any point this season and you both get the Peril Peak Mali outfit.

Worth Knowing

The story picks up right where the Season 3 finale left off. Geno has teamed up with Dr. Eggman, and the season's trailer ends with Geno shooting Jonesy — who wakes up in a hospital bed next to Peely, which reframes the whole season as a fight to reclaim the Loop from inside that dream. None of this changes what Fortnite asks of your hardware, either — it's still one of the more forgiving Battle Royale games to run well across a wide range of setups.

Override is live now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. Chapter 7 Season 4 runs through November 1, 2026.
