"The Mystery of Thebes" brings a new Vanguard built around dark magic and street-level grit, with Season 10 already locked in for a September 11 launch.
NetEase Games launched Marvel Rivals Season 9.5, subtitled The Mystery of Thebes, on August 7 at 09:00 UTC. The update's centerpiece is a new playable Vanguard, The Hood — a street-level supervillain who fights with a mix of hand-to-hand grit and dark magic, joining the roster the same day the season went live.
Early impressions from the community peg The Hood as solid rather than dominant. He's a capable Vanguard without unseating Magneto at the top of the tank tier list, which for a mid-season addition is generally a sign of reasonable balance rather than a character rushed out underpowered or overtuned.
From the shadows of the New York underground comes the newest power-hungry villain. 🔥 Cloaked in a cursed mantle, Parker Robbins lost his faith in heroes alongside his father and his world's Captain America - replacing it with an insatiable appetite for the power to change the world. Stealing an enchanted cloak from the Vault, he remade himself as the feared crime lord, The Hood. Season 9.5 arrives on August 7th, 2026 UTC!

NetEase has already mapped out Season 9.5's roadmap through Season 10, targeted for a September 11 launch. In between, players can expect another wave of Summer Festival cosmetics, new limited-time events, and continued teasing of an X-Men '97 collaboration that hasn't been formally confirmed yet.
A follow-up patch on August 13 added new store bundles, including a Storm skin and a returning Loki "Lady Loki" outfit, shipping with no server downtime — NetEase has kept most cosmetic-only updates deployable without maintenance windows this season.
The Hood is the first Vanguard added since the start of Season 9, giving tank players a genuinely new pick rather than another Duelist or Strategist — worth noting for anyone who's been waiting on the tank roster specifically to grow.
